83 Macandrew Road, Dunedin

Redevelopment of an early saltbox cottage into a residential home.

83 Macandrew Road, Dunedin (archaeological site I44/1105), was purchased by NZHP in 2021. The property has been continuously occupied since the construction of the saltbox cottage in 1875. The original holding comprised three simple cottages and a stable, before being subdivided into three separate properties. Today, 83 Macandrew Road contains the last remaining building associated with the original site.

The cottage is currently undergoing a careful redevelopment to create a warm, comfortable, and energy-efficient home, which is expected to be available for purchase in 2026-2027. Recent works have included re-piling, re-roofing, full insulation upgrades, and the installation of a heat transfer system to improve year-round comfort.
